apologies!

so, the first week of the holidays is almost officially over. i'm not sure when exactly holidays stopped being about fun and started revolving around work, work and more work, but i'm guessing this is a new phenomena. correction, i'm guessing this has been sneaking up like a thief in the night over the past few years, and has progressively been depriving me of what little life i have left. 'tis a sad thing, that. anyway, i never thought i'd say this, but i'm half wishing that school would start again, because then there'd be lessons and homework and so i'd be caught up with all those things and not have so much time to sit around and feel guilty about not doing anything productive with myself. ironic, isn't it. and the second reason is that this is possibly the last semester i'll ever have to spend in a regimented, uniformed environment, so really, who'd be eager to dilly dally and prolong the agony? good riddance to bad rubbish, i'd say!

anyway. the update in my life is that i've been working at allen & gledhill since wednesday. i always had the idea that lawyers were really hoity toity and book-ish people, but now that i've actually seen them in their element, i'd say a better description would be 'powerful'. maybe it's just that the firm gets all the high-profile cases, but seriously, i've only been there 3 days and i've already seen a considerable number of high court sagas (and their related paperwork, obviously) which has completely crushed my notion that nothing interesting happens in singapore law. mighty cool! a lot of the stuff is confidential though, so i should probably stop talking about it in case i divulge something and get sued. especially now that i know that getting sued by a law firm could be quite catastrophic. putting it mildly, that is.

the other cool thing though, is the premises. it's like this spanking new building right smack in the middle of the shenton way district, so i guess by most standards it'd be quite happening. though, there is of course a limit to how happening sitting at desk for 8 hours can be. but it's still a huge improvement from my internship last year, which basically taught me how to be an obedient piece of office furniture, and also never to work for the government. the other thing i hate is the lunch hour. it's really just an HOUR. can you imagine? no breaks in between or anything. it's like some concentration camp or something. the only mitigating factor is that the firm actually hires one caretaker per floor to be solely responsible for restocking the office pantry, and manning a drinks cart which refills water mugs and dispenses coffee and stuff. and the pantry doesn't get stocked with crappy sugar-laden crackers or anything, this shit is the real deal- like marks and spencer cookies and digestives and instant mee and the likes. well, now you know where's my favourite hangout! the pantry aunty and i get along quite well too, i must say :p

alright, more later!
